A console table is a bit of a riddle. It can be a hall table or a side table but is generally not an end table. It can be a sofa table or a coffee table or accent table but not a dining room table. And never ever is it a mathematical table! To solve the mystery of this extremely versatile item a general guideline for a console table is that it is usually a rectangular piece of furniture that ranges from 2 to 4 feet in length and stands about waist high. Some console tables may be half-moon shaped or round but the most commonly recognized shape is a long rectangle.

One of the most common places to find a console table is inside lobby's and hallway's where they not only prove to be functional but can provide a focal point or point of interest. Positioned in a hallway they provide the perfect place to keep your keys or place the mail or newspapers that come through the door. You will often find a one of these tables with a mirror placed above it this is especially true of those found in hallways providing a perfect opportunity to check your appearance before leaving your home.
