Console tables have an enormous role to play in the contemporary interiors and each of them represents a subtle form of beauty and perfection. There is no doubt about the fact that the idea of using these tables ways back to the 17th century but the trend of the modern era has accepted them with open arms.
Start with unfinished wood console tables or one that you can take the current paint off of. If the table has any sort of finish you will need to use a stripping agent to remove that before moving forward with this project.
There are very few rules regarding the design of the table they can be round rectangular or square some have two legs and so therefore must be secured to the wall whilst others are free standing with all four legs affording you the ability to move it to various positions when needed some can even be used as sofa tables. In general these tables are thin and slender so as not to obtrude too far from the wall making them perfect for lobby's and hallways.
Cracking. One way to make wood console tables look old is to give them a cracked finish. Think about the look of an old table pulled out of a farm house after generations. The paint is starting to crack and break away from the surface. It used to be it took a lot of work to create this look but not anymore. There are 'crackle paints' or crackle additives to add to paint that will make this finish happen very easily. Often all you have to do is apply 1-2 coats and you will have created an antique look with ease.
Console tables are often found placed against walls and in some cases are attached to the wall making them more secure. These small tables are sometimes used for display and decorative purposes providing a secure surface on which to stand a lamp or perhaps some flowers. With such versatility and a wide selection of shapes styles and sizes you are sure to find a one that suits your home at a price you can afford.
Next beat up the table. Yes you read that right. There is no old country table that is in perfect condition which means you need to use the file or sandpaper to rough up the edges. If you want it to look well used you can use the hammer to make a few dings.
